Hello,
I thought it would be easy to create a logo made of satin glass on a pane of glass. But unfortunately it doesn’t work. I’ve tried all kinds of materials. Unfortunately, it is not working. Does anyone know how to make a film like the one in the example below with a cut-out logo? I mean a simple satin glass with transparent areas. Thanks in advance for your help.

regards
Hi there,
I can think of two ways inorder to achieve this effect:
-
First is to replace the base color map of the Glass Material or simply the Transparent Material Template in D5 with an image with the logo on it and is surrounded by a Frosted Glass Material image. After doing so you may enable Ultra Hd Texture and Make Seamless to further improve the imported texture
-
Another method is to convert your PNG Photo to DXF Format then insert it in your 3d Modeling Software and to the specific surface. For reference, I am using SketchUp and I ensured that the materials are different on the parts where it is fully transparent and frosted. This way I can assign different materials on these surfaces.
After enabling Livesync I assigned Frosted Glass on its surrounding material and Normal Glass in the logo.
Disclaimer: I do not own this logo and is just being used for testing purposes. Logo is from PNGTree (pngtree-a-letter-logo-design-template-png-image_4544879)

Hi Clovisolasco14,
Thank you. I am grateful for the detailed description.
The second method will definitely work. I know that too. But the first doesn’t quite work. As you can see in your example, both areas are not transparent. And that is exactly what doesn’t work. I took the D5 material “frosted glass” and inserted a black and white graphic of the logo under “Opacity”. In theory, that should be the solution. This should make one area transparent and the other remain “frosted glass”. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work. There is definitely an error in the material settings.
best regards
Hi there,
Regarding the first method, you need to set the material to “Transparent” and then proceed to insert the Material Image in the Base Color Map.
I have also tried the method of inserting an opacity map using the Frost Glass material but despite the white and black areas being prominently divided, it will inherit the frosted texture in both areas. Nevertheless, I will be conveying this requirement to my team and we may add more options and optimize the Opacity slider in subsequent releases.
