D5 Teams workflow question

Hi. Im wondering about D5 Teams implementation.

We have three teams - architecture, interior design and archviz. Architects use Revit, Interiors use revit + 3ds max and archviz uses 3ds (+vray generally but Im using D5 pro alone on some projects).

The buildings always go through multiple iterations on the design and terrain. Therefor we usually export and import a new revit model all the time and we have to retexture and refit it every time - waste of time.

With D5 teams is it possible for the architects to work in their revit file, the interiors work in their own revit file while we from archviz work in 3ds to model the terrain and such? While everything being live synced? So that when architects move a wall in the building for example we can instantly see it in the model without having to export/import a new one in D5?

Im thinking something like live sync-ing D5 to Revit’s central file, architecture and interior design work in their revit worksets and update the revit central file and then somehow is it possible to also link 3ds max in this whole mix so we can work on terrain modeling + landscaping in D5?

Hi @vizfly.gi

D5 Render currently does not support live, bidirectional synchronization between Revit and 3ds Max within a shared collaborative workflow.

  • While D5 supports real-time rendering and can import models from both Revit and 3ds Max, changes made in one software will not automatically update in the other without re-importing or reloading the model.

  • D5’s Live Link feature does support real-time updates from Revit to D5, including projects using Revit central models and worksets. This means that when architects or interior designers modify elements in Revit and synchronize with the central model, those updates can appear in D5 automatically without requiring a manual re-import.

  • However, 3ds Max is not included in this live synchronization workflow. Terrain, landscaping, or other assets created in 3ds Max can be imported into D5 as static models, but any modifications made later in 3ds Max will require re-exporting and reloading the assets in D5 for the changes to appear.

At this time, there is no native simultaneous three-way live synchronization between Revit, 3ds Max, and D5 Render.

A more practical workflow is to use Revit for all building-related geometry with Live Link enabled to D5, while handling terrain and landscaping either directly inside D5 using:

  • D5 Terrain: its built-in tools or
  • Through periodic exports and updates from 3ds Max (such as FBX or IFC files).
