D5 Sync - Cinema 4D material issue

Hi,

I noticed serious problem while import reflective material from Cinema 4D.
D5 treat reflection color as diffuse color. It make glass pure white for example :

Another thing is that D5 doesn’t recognize objects grouped by null in Cinema 4D while exporting that object to d5a file.

It recognize it while syncing only.

Hi @Smolak

Could you please specify which version of C4D and the corresponding plug-in version you’re currently using?

Hi @Clov please see included scene. D5 take base color from C4D reflection color. Base diffuse color should be black.

D5 latest, C4D 2025.3.3
windows.zip (942.9 KB)

For C4D standard, PBR material reflections are completely not supported on D5 side ( it use default 0.3 ) :

But other channels works fine.

Ok I found what is going on here. D5 Sync change diffuse color to white if in C4D side it going below 5% so there is issue :

refl.zip (2.2 MB)

This is using ACES color managemant in C4D.

Using C4D old legacy color management D5 Sync change diffuse color to white if C4D diffuse color is set to 0. It works fine for values above 0

Hi @Smolak

Our team did some test based on the information you have provided.

  1. Window.zip
  1. Standard Reflections
  1. Color Management and Diffuse Color

Problem is that in Cinema 4D diffuse is set to 0% by default while creating pure reflective material like glass. Also it has the same issue while using C4D Diffuse Weight value if it is set to 0%

C4Dglass.zip (57.4 KB)

Hi @Smolak

Problem is that in Cinema 4D diffuse is set to 0%

  • After thorough testing, we’ve found out that this is a bug. We have reported it and will be fixing it in the subsequent release.

Also it has the same issue while using C4D Diffuse Weight value if it is set to 0%

  • As for this, this is within expectation. the weight of the base color is given as 0, so white is taken
