I am new here in the forum, but have been using Rhino since 2015 and D5 for 6 months.
I recently updated to the latest Rhino 8 version along with the latest D5 Render update. Unfortunately, I’ve encountered several significant issues that have affected my workflow, forcing me to roll back to version Rhino 8.5 (the last version I had in my download folder).
Here are the specific problems I faced:
Extremely Long Sync Time: Syncing between Rhino and D5 Render took an excessively long time. Previously, the sync process was relatively quick and seamless.
Rhino Mapping Not Showing Correctly in D5: The mappings I set up in Rhino did not translate correctly to D5 Render. This mismatch caused significant disruptions, as the visual representation was crucial for my project.
D5 Render Very Laggy: Performance in D5 Render was substantially degraded. The software became very laggy and unresponsive, making it challenging to navigate and render scenes.
Rhino Laggy as Well: Not only was D5 affected, but Rhino itself also became noticeably slower and less responsive after the update.
Running out of memory. I am running out of memory on my graphicscard (AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX - 24GB GDDR6 RAM) which has never happend before (even this morning it was running smoothly).
After rolling back to version 8.5, all these issues were resolved, and both Rhino and D5 Render worked perfectly as before. Given this experience, it seems there might be some compatibility or performance issues with the latest update. I don’t know if it is on your or Rhino’s end…
Could you please look into these problems? I would love to continue using the latest version with its new features, but the current performance issues make it unworkable for me.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Simon**
**Screenshots/Videos Description:
Just for confirmation, are you referring to everything working well with Rhino 8.5 version but not with Rhino 8? Could you please tell me your current sync plugin version as well?
According to your problems, do they appear in specific model files or every single file? Too much video memory usage may cause D5 to crash frequently or display the ‘out of memory’ error pop-up. You can monitor the VRAM & RAM usage when running D5 scenes.
Thank you for your response.
First of all i have the latest Sync plugin for R8, and it Work in Rhino 8.5.
I did a similar post on Rhino’s forum yesterday and they sent me all Rhino versions from 8.5 to 8.11 to test. I used 2 hours this morning to test all the different version to troubleshoot in which version this happens. I did the test with the same model for all of the verions. Here are the results of my test:
Rhino - 8.5: Working Rhino - 8.6: Working Rhino - 8.7: Working Rhino - 8.8: Running out of memory after about 5 min of working, and crashing. Rhino - 8.9: Running out of memory after about 5 min of working, and crashing. Rhino - 8.10: Running out of memory after about 5 min of working, and crashing. Rhino - 8.11: Left my PC for about 8 min while Lauhing d5, when i came back it had an error saying I was out of graphic memory and crashed.
So from 8.8 my pc is using A lot more VRAM. It keeps building up the ram usage until it crashes after 5 min, even if i just leave the pc it will keep building up the ram usage and eventually crash. I have been following the usage of RAM in the taskmanager.
I hope this is a help for you to finguring out the problem
I still need to confirm the plugin version that you are using. Is it LiveSync or Sync plugin? The latest version of D5 LiveSync for Rhino is Ver.1.0.0.0029 released last month, and you can download it here: Workflow | D5 LiveSync for Rhino | User Manual (d5render.com)
You can check the version within Rhino:
Then I will confirm with the team with more details of version compatibility and get back to you. Thank you.
