Hello, I have activated the educational student version on my device. If I reinstall Windows, do I need to re-activate the license? Thank you.

This error prompt will appear after your Windows reinstallation.

Our educational license operates as a “fixed-seat” license, as stated on our official website. This means the following:

  • Your educational account is limited to a specific computer, and switching devices is not permitted.
  • If you remove or replace hardware, such as an HDD or SSD, or format your device, you will encounter an error prompt.
  • Even a Windows update or reinstallation can trigger this error prompt, so it’s advisable to avoid these actions while your educational license is active.

If you encounter this issue, the only solution is to manually unbind your device via the MySpace page. However, please be aware that doing so will immediately expire your educational license, and you will need to reapply.
