After I switched to 2.7, I noticed that even after setting the North Offset at 0 degrees, the sun direction seems to have changed randomly.

Sorry for the inconvenience. If the times were the same, would the sun’s orientation still be wrong. I imported the model in two times and it seems like the sun orientation didn’t change. How did you get the import to work both times?
I think the sun’s orientation is consistent with the change in time. It’s just the North offset that is in an irregular direction which was not the case in 2.6. There, the sun would be aligned horizontally to an axis but here it’s from some other side.

Nope, there’s no sun object in blender. Just those two meshes.
