D5 2.0 Render noise and reduced preview quality?

PLEASE SEE UPDATES BELOW:

SOLVED: Thank you D5 Team! You are amazing and I’m very impressed! So glad this was all user issues and not D5! I’m glad I came back to D5.

Hello Friends, I’ve been away from rendering for almost a year. Just getting back into d5. With the 2.0 update, I find myself frustrated with noisy images. These are the same models I used in prior version, which even at 2k render output, never had noise. Now, even at 16k render, still seeing noise.

I find it frustrating to work with D5 2.0 now that I see issues that never were there prior. It appears the preview quality has also been reduced signifyingly. I say, appears to, as I can’t be sure, but from what I remember, there were more setting in the old version that are gone in the new version to help with the noise and preview quality.

Sharing a specific example is pointless. But, here is one anyway. It’s on any of my models and a global issue. 2k renders are just unusable now. The only quality image is now at 8k or 16k output. Which means lot of time wasted vs the old version. Yes, 8k-16k are much sharper, but the old 2k renders were soft, noise free without any special need to fuss around and adjust textures.

I will say, I’m amazed at how much better some materials are being handled. The oven looks white in the old version. Now, appliances metal materials are beautiful. So, not all bad, just different, better, but the noise… that is my main issue.

Somethings seems broken, but again, maybe just me? I did pull up a side by side, and there is no doubt the renderings are very different on the exact same model. 2k was just fine. Smooth, clean, good enough. Even at 8k, the image is just too sharp, missing the realistic quality D5 once so easily created effortlessly. Disappointing.
8k (but had to reduce file size, so, not as nice as original, but the noise is obvious still)

Prior version of d5 low res.

Hello, excuse me :slightly_smiling_face: which part of this image has the noise you mentioned? Did you mean the strange shadows on the wall? I think this scene is over-exposured, maybe you could try turning off auto-exposure and adjusting exposure lower?

Hi,

The first 8k image from 2.0. (top image) look full screen mode. Above the cabinets along the wall.

Also, in preview mode, I notice a lot more noise in general.

I did finally find the DLSS ON button. Odd it was in the side menu, and not with camera controls or display. Not sure it helps, but testing now.

This is DLSS ON, not as noisy. Maybe, this is good now?

Latest render, 2k Noise more obvious. Could be exposure? I did have to increase it.

I did find an issue, I had a point light outside the scene as additional light source. This was something that worked well to supplement ‘sun’ light effect in the old version. I believe this solved the issue. Sorry for inconvenience. Everything seems better now. I’m going to try other old models.
Same model, deleted point light. Tweak exposure. Much better. (well, still over exposed, but noise is 100% gone!) Crazy how I missed the point light being the noise issue. Didn’t think of it until I was going item by item in the model.

Some more adjustments and fixed some sloppy placement of recess lighting. The fidelity of this 4k image is wonderful. You can see all the details of the cabinet doors, no noise, and just wonderful. I know I have a long way to go on my 3d skills, but for the investment of time vs results, bar none the best option out there!!! D5 for the win!

Hi Steve, glad to know that you have a solution to that problem. I have to say this latest one is a really good interior render. In the next version, we will still improve our GI and shadow calculation to make interior renders look more real. :+1:

Can’t wait for next update! You have no idea how happy I am to get D5 2.0 up and running. I can really see the improvements now! I really enjoy this 3d artist stuff. Being able to make money at it will be even better  Just have to keep working at improving my skills. Large learning curve.
