Cannot resave crashed project file

Evening all

We have had a project crash and are struggling to re-save the project

One of the 3 backup folders has a 64kb file that when renamed .drs allows the project to open. Once opened, the ‘the save file has been moved or is corrputed…’ error occours.

However moving this .drs back up to the core file and trying to open there has an error ‘this file is corrupted’ and wont open.

So we have an open project, but cannot close it for fear of loss, and dont know how to rescue it

We would very much appreciate some assitance.

Many thanks from the southern hemisphere

I apologize for the inconvenience. We don’t recommend opening and renaming the .bak file and then proceeding to save it just like the normal file. Since this will result to complications and issues just like the one that you are experiencing now.

  • If you’re trying to recover your file, you may access it through D5’s Recent Tabs > Right-click on the Project > View History Version

If you are experiencing crash with a specific file only and you are already using the 2.10 Version, given also that it is a big scene, you may need to optimize your model by doing some asset organization.

  • Hiding assets that are not evident on specific scenes will lighten the load.
  • You may enable Smooth Mode instead of Precise while adjusting your model.
  • Temporarily disable Dynamic Assets

Hello and many thanks for the response!!

The issue is the recovery - the file itself isn’t too heavy etc. We’ve learnt over time how to manage this :).

In trying to open the recovery files, the issue is still present - we can open and use, but cannot save-as (or save) as it shows the error. Hmmm.

Hi @ATT_Studio

Just to clarify, you have opened the .bak file then tried to save it then converted it to a .drs file right?

So the core file is corrupted and wont open

The .bak file we have renamed the extension .drs and it opens, but it wont allow save or save-as. We did this by simple rename in windows.

(thanks for the help!)

Hi @ATT_Studio

Please refrain from doing this process since this will cause file corruption and errors such as being unable to save the file normally. Can you access you file’s version history? If you can, please recover the file in this way.

Let me know. Thank you.
