After rendering and saving a simple scene, some assets become ‘corrupt’. when I try to reopen the project, it crashes at 5%.
I deleted the f2 folder many times, which lets me to open the project. After I update that specific asset, it crashes D5. And that specific asset is not a huge model (flowering herb). Other assets like highly detailed trees don’t let D5 crash.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Even small assets (like plants) can crash a project if their package is corrupted or didn’t download/extract properly. Since deleting the f2 folder lets you reopen the file, it’s very likely that this specific “flowering herb” asset is the one causing the problem.
For now, please try removing that asset from the scene before updating it, or replace it with another model and see if the file stays stable. You can also monitor your VRAM usage when loading the project, just to rule out memory spikes. Thanks
First of all, thanks for your response, and sorry for my late reply. I’ve been working on the same project, and I can now say with certainty that the issue isn’t asset-related but scatter-related.
Sometimes I spend an entire day working on the 3D environment using scatters and everything works perfectly. I save the project and close it without any problems. But the next day, the project refuses to open, despite having had zero issues the day before. When I delete the f2 folder, the project opens again. However, as soon as I update the assets, it crashes and won’t open again.
Because of a deadline, I switched to using the normal brush tool instead of the Scatter Tool. The project is filled with the same assets I used in the scatter, but now it doesn’t crash. Even after saving and closing, the project reopens without any problems.
Are there any known problems at D5 related to the Scatter Tool?
Thanks for the update and no woorries for the late reply. Based on what you described, yes — this looks like a known issue with the Scatter Tool. Other users have reported that projects work fine at first but won’t reopen later, and deleting the f2 folder temporarily fixes it. Updating assets can also cause the same crash.
Since your project works normally when using the Brush Tool, it’s very likely the crash is caused by Scatter, not the assets. For now, using the Brush Tool is the more stable option and please make sure your D5 client is the latest version. If you need help checking anything else, feel free to let me know.
