Archicad + D5 render

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue in ArchiCAD where soft and rounded furniture elements like chairs, sofas, and cushions are not appearing smooth. Instead of nice, round shapes, they look faceted — you can clearly see the edges, as if they are made of flat segments.

This becomes even more noticeable after exporting the model to D5 Render.

I’m trying to understand:

  • Why these rounded objects (especially furniture like sofas and pillows) are not smooth
  • Whether this is caused by ArchiCAD settings or by the objects themselves
  • How to increase the smoothness or polygon count of these elements
  • What is the correct workflow to get smooth, realistic furniture in D5 Render

If anyone knows how to fix this or what settings I should check, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @ynovatska

Do you have any images or screenshots comparing how it looks in ArchiCAD vs in D5 Render? Additionally, if you can send us these files for testing, that would help us identify the issue and how we can improve it.

Before sending us the files, we recommend the following:

  1. Ensure you are using the latest ArchiCAD LiveSync plugin version (e.g., v1.2.0.0002 or newer).

  2. Check if the model uses NURBS or high-resolution meshes in ArchiCAD, these may be downsampled during sync.

  3. Try exporting the problematic furniture as an FBX or OBJ from ArchiCAD and importing directly into D5 (bypassing LiveSync) to see if the issue persists.

Hello ynovatska, the problem is in archicad objects that need to be rounded, having multiple polygons. But this makes the export file in D5 weigh down, to solve in a simple way there are 2 ways to get around, one is to explode the object and then give the materials of the faces of the object, once this is done, you select it, that is, the shape of the object, go to drawing edit shape, there you will find the way to give more polygons to the shape of the object. Then you save the object in .gsm so you can already find it in your personal library. But it is not certain that you will have the quality you want. The second method is, when you load your work into D5 with objects, such as chairs, tables, safà, you have the position of the furniture. The objects you have on the job in archicad you can take them individually, then you see them in the single 3d of archicad, you save it in .skp that is in SketchUp Pro, then you open them one at a time in SketchUp, and in the program there is the function that when you select it and ping on the right mouse button, a curtain will come out where you soften the faces, You select it, and on your right on the curtain you will act by giving it a flight, so it softens the polygons, then saves it. Once this is done, you load it onto D5 and place it where your furniture is placed. And then, when you have placed what you imported, all you have to do is turn off your furniture in archicad with a simple Layer created by you, and then synchronize, so the furniture will disappear and will remain only loaded by SketchUp.
Then another thing, in the Archicad library, perhaps you haven’t noticed, gives you the possibility, by opening the object, on the curtain of its values, to increase the polygons.

Sorry for the English, and good job
