Another uv unwrapping issue

Hi all,
I’m in the process of changing my workflow from Rhino to Lumion to Rhino to D5 Render, most things I’ve experienced are great, however there is a UV issue that I just don’t understand how to fix - Please see image attached, on the right is Rhino showing the building has had Box mapping applied and it looks fine - however when imported to D5 on the left the UV mapping is not consistent, meaning applying any brick/slate etc material is going to be distorted - how can I fix this? - normally it’s a case of fixing these things in Rhino but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
It seems also that it has a problem with meshes from Rhino, this building originally came from 3ds Max if that information is of any use - I’ve also had similar problems with the UV mapping being messed up when I’ve exported from Revit to Rhino as a mesh and then out to D5

Thanks all,

Martin

Hi @mc1

Since you’ve mentioned that this model came from 3dsMax and some models on your end came from Revit, when placed in Rhino and then to D5, these distortions appeared in UV mapping.

  • Did you try bringing them to D5 when they were still in their original file format?
  • What happens if you activate Triplanar in D5?
  • What’s your Plug-in Version? And D5 Version?
    Rhino
  • If possible, please share with us the 3d model. You can separate the building and place it in another file. You may send it to me privately here in the forum messages.

Hi @Clov
In this particular model, it was a building I downloaded from Sketchup warehouse, I then imported it to 3ds Max to make some amendments and then out to Rhino where I added the basic box mapping and then into D5.
Regarding Revit, that was a previous project where I created some topography in Revit, then brought it into Rhino as meshes and then to D5.

I’m using the latest version 1.1.0.0002

…just used Triplanar and it worked!.. thank you - I don’t really understand why it’s needed though, as D5 is applying a uniform texture mapping to the object - when the object should have one already

  • in theory, should the objects that you bring in D5 from Rhino retain the UV mapping that you see in Rhino?

Hi @mc1

D5 should be able to retain most of the UV Mapping structures from Rhino. We previously had a limitation with meshes, but it was resolved in newer versions of the plug-in. The 3-part process you did may have caused the issue, and we would like to test it on our end.

  • If you could point out which model you have used from SKP Warehouse and the settings you have tweaked in 3ds Max, then that would be better. Alternatively, you can simply send us the modified model.

HI @Clov - I’ve messaged you with the original file - which is actually a 3ds max, not a sketchup file - I was mistaken. I also sent you the amended Rhino building file yesterday

Cheers,
Martin

Alright @mc1

Thank you.
