AI Post Processing - inpainting for paving/roads query

Hi all,

I’ve been trying out the AI post processing tool, and the ‘inpainting’ tool which is working well for the sky and vegetation, however for other elements like paving I’m using ‘smart retouch’ then selecting it and then it’s seemingly doing something but there’s no difference - how does this tool actually work? - presumably I can tell it what I want? - or is it no developed yet to that degree?
Thanks,
Martin

Hi @mc1

Can you send us an image comparison (before and after)? The Smart Retouch category in inpainting performs a deep, context-aware analysis on any object you choose.

Hi Clov,
I’m not sure if the images help, as there is literally no difference with using ‘smart retouch’ for the paving, you can see in one image I have selected the paving, then presumably I need to click ‘inpainting’ and seemingly something is happening but when it is complete there’s no result - presumably I can choose some sort of paving etc i want or use a prompt?

Hi @mc1

Thanks for bringing this up, although you did send some images, I may need the original image since they appear to be small and pixelated. Please send it via WeTransfer or Google Drive link, then send it to me here via direct message.

We’re currently looking into this.

Hi @Clov

The images I sent were just screengrabs, they are just to show the area of paving I was selecting and the ‘inpainting’ button that I was pressing after going into ‘Smart retouch’ - basically nothing happens when I do this, higher res images will not explain it any better. If possible it would be good to know what is supposed to happen, either with a video or a few pictures?
Thanks

I’ve tried google and youtube for a workflow showing the ‘smart retouch’ but can’t see anything for changing out paving/roads etc, only for sky/water/vegetation

Hi @mc1

Unlike a simple AI Enhance which applies subtle, overall improvements, Smart Retouch performs a deep, context-aware analysis on any object you choose. But as you have mentioned, this is not the case hence, inorder for us to improve this feature, it would be best to collect the:

  • Original image
  • and the Upscaled Image

Further information regarding this feature will be included in our User Manual as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hi @Clov

It seems I misunderstood what ‘smart retouch’ does. When I go into ‘inpainting’ it gives different categories, sky/water/vegetation - there isn’t one for paving/roads etc - and I read somewhere that you can use ‘smart retouch’ to change out these areas, by change out, I mean you can change the paving/road material - but it seems I’m mistaken with that. I suppose the question is then, how do you change out the materials for paving/roads etc? - I’ve just downloaded the new version which looks like it has some cool new AI tools, might I find this feature there?

Hi @mc1

May I know where you have read that Smart Retouch functions the same way as AI Inpainting Sky, Water, and Vegetation? Actually, the features that you have mentioned are only available for these 3 options: Sky, Water, and Vegetation (where you can use AI to replace or change out these materials/configuration)

  • There’s no inpainting feature or option yet that will configure the surface material. You may need to manually change them using assets from the Asset Library.

@Clov - honestly I don’t know where I read that, I’d have to search for it again and I don’t really have time - and as you’ve said it’s not correct information, it could also be that I misinterpreted it

Hi @mc1

No worries, I’ll also convey the feature you have mentioned as feedback/request. Thanks for your interest in trying out D5~
