Need help, I’ve seen a few threads on this but can’t figure it out.
My 3DS scene just collapses when imported to D5. I want to create phasing animations so the object/layer/group structure is really important. I feel like I’ve tried everything and I have no idea now.
I’ve tried setting up layers in my 3DS Max file e.g. furniture, but just collapses to a whole furniture object. Also tried various ways of grouping objects but still nothing. Is someone able to outline exactly how to maintain object structure going into D5? Thanks
Hi there,
-
May I know which D5 Livesync Version for 3dsMax are you currently using? You may want to download the latest version if you haven’t.
-
You may choose between “One Layer” or “Two Layer” option depending on your need. Generally, the difference between the two is as follows.
One Layer
Two Layer

Please ensure that you have checked the “Keep Group Hierarchy” option in the plug-in’s .d5a export and proceed to convert the model to a .d5a file then import it to D5 Render.
Let me know if this helps, thank you.
Haha ok, yeah I wasn’t running the latest version apparently. I’ve just seen the Beta version of the latest update.
That all works as I was expecting it to now. Thanks for the response. Couple more questions:
- Can I change from the background, for phasing animations, I’d prefer like a plain white rather than the ‘terrain’?
- How should I structure single objects in the group hierarchy when I don’t want them collapsed into ‘others’, do they just need to be in their own group?
Thanks again
Hi there, I apologize for the late reply.

You can turn off the terrain in the objects tab, simply click on the “Eye” icon. As for the plain white background, you can proceed to click the “HDRI” Tab and select “Pure White”

Indeed, you are correct. The single objects may need to be grouped if you prefer them not to be merged into one object in D5 Render.
Thank you.
