[2.10] Issues Encountered When Rendering Animation in D5

Hello D5 team, I’m working on a project that requires rendering video animations, and I’ve encountered two issues during the process. I’ll list them in detail below, along with some steps I’ve taken to address them. It might be a bit lengthy, but I hope you can provide solutions to help me.

  1. It seems there’s an error when placing trees along a path, which has rendered some of my prepared clips unusable. When I click on an affected clip in D5, the 3D display turns black for 1-2 seconds, then a “TDR” error message appears. I researched and tried fixing the “TDR” issue, then tested again. This time, no message appeared, but D5 crashed and closed itself. This is incredibly frustrating, especially since it’s the first video in the list, meaning I can’t work on other videos either—D5 crashes immediately upon opening the file, clicking the video tab, and selecting the faulty clip.
After spending a lot of time troubleshooting, I found the issue stemmed from certain trees placed along a path with 6 types. Reducing it to 5 types resolved the error. A similar issue occurred in another file. I checked and ensured no path trees had 6 types, but the error persisted. Further investigation revealed I needed to remove exactly 2 specific tree types from the path (removing 2 different types didn’t work).
I believe this is a bug because deleting all path trees eliminates the error, while removing all other objects (imports, people, cars, lights, etc.) but keeping the path trees still triggers it. I tested this on two machines (first: RTX 3060, 12GB VRAM, 64GB RAM; second: RTX 4090, 24GB VRAM, 64GB RAM), and the error persisted on both (with the original file and a version with only path trees left). I tried running D5 normally and as an administrator, but it didn’t help. This suggests the issue lies with the path trees.
For this case, I uninstalled D5, deleted all libraries, and reinstalled it. Upon reopening, D5 prompted me to redownload missing libraries, which took a while but allowed me to access the previously faulty videos. I temporarily added a blank video at the top, so if other videos failed, I could still work on unaffected ones. Unfortunately, the next day, the same file crashed again. I repeated the uninstall-reinstall process, but this time it didn’t work, and I can’t access the faulty videos anymore. This is worrying because I can’t edit those clips if needed.
  2. The second issue occurs when rendering videos in the queue with sequence settings (.png output, 30fps, including the Reflection channel). Two out of 11 videos failed to render, halting the process with the error “Render Failed - Insufficient permissions. Please select another location.”
I tried rendering the sequence (.png) independently instead of in the queue with the same settings. The render progress appeared on-screen, but no images appeared in the designated folder during rendering (I know D5 creates a subfolder for sequences, but it was empty). After completion, no images were saved in the specified folder.
I tried again with independent rendering, this time outputting as .mp4, which worked, but this means I can’t render the Reflection channel.

These are the issues I’ve faced and my temporary workarounds, but they highlight that rendering videos in D5 feels quite unstable (for me). I’m genuinely concerned about future animation projects using D5. I’d appreciate your suggestions for solutions as soon as possible.
A few basic steps I’ve tried without success:

  • I always install the software with Administrator rights.
  • I’ve restarted my computer when encountering these errors.

Thank you!

Hi @minhduy.nguyen

I apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused, and at the same time, thank you for the detailed information that you have provided. Before everything else, can you please send me the following Screenshots:

  1. First, the TDR Error prompt is usually tied to crashing and excessive VRAM Consumption due to the use of heavy assets (large quantity). You’ve managed to eliminate the error prompt and are already presented with the second issue with this, which is the crashing.

Based on your first statements, this issue does not always and is usually file-specific.

  • How large are these files that you are working with?
  • Can you normally create new scene files or run D5 demo files? If the problem only exists with the current project or some of the scene files, it is likely that the file is too heavy and is taking up too much video memory, exceeding the load of your current device, and you need to lighten and optimize your file.

What we can recomend:

  • Please delete the ‘f2’ folder under your WorkSpace path and then reopen the archive. Once it’s open, refrain from updating the assets until you have lightened your scene file by deleting some assets or organizing them based on how they are evident in each scene.

  • It is also important to note that the recent 2.10 Version has introduced Path Tracing, and this will surely increase the GPU load once it is enabled. You may try to disable it if possible.

  • Enable Smooth Display

  • Disable dynamic assets
    image

  • Ensure that your Graphics Driver are up to date

  1. Second, Render Failed, Insufficient Permissions,
    image
If this prompt is displayed, you may want to put the rendered image to a file location where you can execute administrative actions. Otherwise, you can run D5 as an administrator or migrate the file location (finished image) to a location with editing permissions in the preference settings.
  • Based on your description, this error prompt only appears when you render these videos asa sequence and works fine with the mp4 format, assuming that the file location is the same in both tests. If this is the case, please send us a log file, you can generate it by following the instructions in this link: How to use Support Tool? | User Manual

Hi @Clov ,

Greetings,
Thank you for your feedback. First and foremost, I would like to attach screenshots containing information about the system specifications of the computer I am currently using for your reference.

  1. Allow me to address some of your questions:
Q: How large are these files that you are working with?
A: The actual working files I am handling consist of two files (one for “Architecture/Overall” and one for “Landscape”). After cleanup, their sizes are 4.48GB and 3.19GB, respectively, with each file averaging approximately 7.5 billion polygons. These files pertain to a high-rise residential project. Interestingly, both files encounter a similar issue related to the pathtree, though what puzzles me is that the way I detect the error differs between them, as I mentioned in my previous post. During this error, I saved smaller files to troubleshoot. The smallest file I created contains only two pathtrees, with a size of 917MB and approximately 7.3 million polygons. Previously, I had attempted the solution you suggested (which I found through a Google search for similar issues), but it didn’t work. Today, I followed your steps again( disabling path tracing, enabling smooth mode, turning off dynamic settings, updating the VGA driver, deleting the f2 folder, and even uninstalling D5 along with its settings before reinstalling it) but the result remains unchanged.

Q: Can you normally create new scene files or run D5 demo files?
A: Yes, everything functions normally in that regard. I can create new files and open other files without issues. It’s possible that this is because I don’t render videos with those other files, though static images in D5 seem stable. Even with the faulty pathtree in the file mentioned above, when I save the preset in Studio, open a new file, and apply that preset, the new file works without errors.

I’ve attached images of the smaller file I extracted from the “Landscape” file, which includes only two pathtrees. The pathtree circled in red is the one causing the error. In this file, deleting that specific pathtree resolves the issue entirely, or deleting the two trees I’ve circled within the pathtree also restores normal functionality. Meanwhile, in the “Architecture” file, I identified a problematic pathtree as well, but I found a workaround: reducing the number of tree types in that pathtree from six to five by removing any one tree resolves the issue.

  1. Thank you for your suggestions. I had previously tried similar steps (running D5 as an administrator and changing the file save location to a directory with edit permissions), but they didn’t resolve the problem. I’m curious as to why, when using the render queue with the same save path and with 100GB of free storage space on my drive, other scenes save successfully, yet these two specific scenes fail to save as sequences. I will provide the log file later, as the computer I’m currently using is not the one containing those files.

Looking forward to your insights, thanks.

Hi @minhduy.nguyen

Thank you for the detailed answer that you have provided, gladly appreciate it.

So basically, the VRAM info from Task Manager is opened with the problematic D5 File where the issue was evident, right?

This is an interesting issue. Can you send you also send us your D5 Render File together with your log file?

Hi @Clov ,

I apologize for my delayed response,

I have shared the “Tree4” file via the link below. This file contains the path tree that caused the error, and I hope you can assist in resolving the issue.
Tree4 - This file causes an error

I will send additional files that crashed when rendering later.

Thank you very much for your support.

Hi @minhduy.nguyen

These paths that you have separated are what’s causing the issue when they are inserted in your D5 Render File (Main)? But if they are separated and placed in another model they work normally?

  • This sounds like excessive GPU usage, but you did provide us with a GPU Information, which shows 19% usage. I’m assuming you have opened your D5 File while accessing GPU Information, please confirm.

Hi @Clov ,

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Indeed, the path provided is the cause of the issue in my main D5 file. I attempted to merge it with another file, but the resulting merged file encountered the same problem, as if the issue had been transferred. However, as mentioned previously, when I save this path tree in “Studio,” open a new file, and utilize it, everything functions normally.

I can confirm that the GPU status is highly stable. In the attached image I sent earlier, when opening the “Tree4” file, the GPU usage was at 8.73%, and VRAM was at 31.95%. My purpose in sharing the path file with you is partly due to the confidentiality requirements of our company’s project (I hope for your understanding) and to confirm that the file is lightweight, thereby ruling out the possibility of the error being caused by insufficient GPU performance.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to your guidance on resolving this issue.

Hi @minhduy.nguyen

Thanks for the clarification. I’ll try to merge this file to a D5 Demo File and see if we can replicate this issue.

Additionally, I think it would be best to check your VRAM/GPU Usage (Task Manager) with the Main D5 File instead of just the Tree 4 File, you may resend it again.

Yes, I send you additional information about my computer’s GPU/VRAM when opening the main file.
