When should I use sync model vs export ?

I want to know what is the best practice workflow, as a Revit user. Another architect, using another software higly advised me to always export my model, but watching the D5 tutorials it is always mentioned to use the start button from the pluggin.

How do I know when to use one and when another ?

Also, it is very common in my office practice, to make a copy of the revit file when making big changes of the proyect, without loosing the original file. I want to know what are the correct steps to have my proyect correctly synced with the same D5 .drs file

Thank you in advance !

Hi @est.arquitecturamc

  • D5 Sync for Revit - basically a handy tool for you to be able to activate D5 inside the software, you also have the option to update them every time there are changes.

  • Direct Import / Export to d5a - has options to group the models.

I think as for your workflow, these two options are viable.

  • D5 Sync - With your newly modified file, I suggests opening your D5 project file first then activating the plug-in you’ll be presented with a window that will ask you whether you want to replace the linkage or create a new one. Proceed with replacing the linkage so the positions will be retained.

  • Direct Import / Export d5a - I may lean more on exporting compared to using the plug-in, just make sure to export the modified file with the same File name and location so you can “Reload” it.
