Thanks a lot man!
I spent a lot of time mixing different materials to create the right atmosphere, of course always trying to respect the contrasts and not to introduce too many variations in color / finish. I started with the idea of keeping the side walls in stone or covering them with bricks but I realized that they would have created a lot of contrast and made the environment more rural while I wanted to opt for something elegant. In the end I created some contrasts with woods of different color and grain and used this sort of wall between the French doors to insert a lava stone cladding. I’m really enjoying working with D5 and posting the 2k videos on Instagram has given me a lot of satisfaction.

Hey Oliver. You’re more than welcome!! Just type gabriele udella. You will find some stories in the highlights and some others I saved under “lighting design”

Very, very good job
Can you tell me how you manage to have thie degree of realism?
Do you have video to explain this ?
Many thanks

Hi Pierre.

I am really glad you like the project.
I realized that working with d5 is really great because it offers a very high level of realism.
For this project, as previously explained, I used models created with sketchup and others created with 3dsmax, i.e. imports of beds or furniture from 3dsky. At the moment they are not visible as they are present in the other rooms of the house.
Everything in this scene is from my models in sketchup.
I don’t know what is the right recipe to create this level of realism but I can tell you that:
-the lighting is given by a mix of HDRI of POLYHEAVEN and sun system of the software.
-I applied a LUT with kinematic effect and set the level to 0.3.
-The textures come from CGMOOD for the floor and from different sources for the woods, obviously they have all the components so AO, ROUGH, DISPLACE, etc…
-The panorama you see is created through the TIERGARTEN texture, downloaded with the HDRI and applied to a sphere, which has double material. The material of the texture “panorama” has a little emissivity, the one on the other side is transparent. In this way the light can enter and influence the scene.
-A lot of the final effect is also due to the design of the interior and the combination of materials.
-I used some woods and materials from the D5 library, such as gold leaf applied to the Catellani&Smith lamps.
-Important is to calibrate well the artificial lighting, in this case I always work with values ranging from 10 to 100. IT WOULD BE GREAT if the programming team would enter the lumen values of the light sources. I had a problem in the kitchen with the Occhio lamps, I don’t know if it was due to my ignorance of the software or to a lack of options. In order to create the diffused light effect of the direct and indirect components of the lamp, which are distributed along the aluminum ring, I simulated it with a square-shaped diffused light of the diameter of the lamp, obviously this creates artifacts when the light is reflected in very shiny objects. It would be useful to be able to apply ies files to diffuse lights as well.

If you have any specific questions, please ask, I would love to be able to help.

Hi Gabriella

Thank you very much for your reply
I have been on CGMOOD and saw that for ground textures’ for example) I don’t have all the layers (Ao etc…)
Do you know other sites like CGMOOD with all the layers.
Thank you

Pierre

Hi Pierre.
Usually I have found all the specific maps on the textures on cgmood. It depends a lot on who has made them. The ones produced by the cgmood team are perfect.
You can find some good stuff for free almost everywhere.
Check polyheaven, poliigon, cgaxis, and some websites like: Textures

Check also behance. A lot of 3d artists publish textures collections and more.
