Vectorworks LiveSync 1.2.0.0012 Problems

topics:

  • Sync loses existing project-file-path when connection was interrupted
  • Vectorworks 2026 (Update 4) crashes, wenn 2D Top-View is used temporarily

We currently have the issue, that in the workflow with Vectorworks 2025 / 2026 (VW & D5 file both locally on desktop), if the user accidentally opens 2D view or connection is lost for whatever different reason (D5 window stays open), that after resyncing, D5 always opens a new file (without asking) in the existing open D5 window (so it looks like it connected to the previous saved d5 file - but it’s actually not). We noticed, because after the sync, the assigned materials are gone/mismatched or replaced through basic colors. If then in the menu → file → open the previously saved project is chosen, everything is back to normal. When closing D5 window after lost connection and starting the Sync freshly, everything’s fine. (That’s our current workaround)

→ Would be great if that can be fixed in a future update, so that the Sync automatically finds the right file path again, instead of creating new files, without having to close the D5 window before resyncing

Second issue is, that when working in Vectorworks 2026 and the 2D-Top-View (with paused sync & camera) is chosen (for example to adjust geometry), Vectorworks crashes immediately, instead of popping up a warning & just interrupt the connection (as it currently works in Vectorworks 2025). Our current workaround is, to make adjustments exclusively in 3D Perspective.

→ Fixing this in a future update would as well be amazing

(using older Sync or D5 Versions didn’t help with any of the issues)

  • [Important] Does this occur to all of your VW files? Or only to a specific file?
  • Can you send us a video recording of the issue, showing the whole process?

We recently updatet D5 render to Version 3.1.1.0755. (When i wrote the post we used Version 3.1.0)

That resolved the second issue (VW2026 now also pops up a warning instead of crashing, when switching to 2D topview)

Everything else stayed the same:
VW 2025 Update 8 Build 841679
VW 2026 Update 4 Build 854846
D5 Launcher Version 1.2.0.0110
Live Sync for Vectorworks Version 1.2.0.0012

The problems occur on all files, not specific ones, regardless of it being an old file oder a new created one.

I recorded a desktop-video (also contains Version-Checkup) of showing the first issue (D5 render creating a new file with mixed up Materials (without asking), instead of automatically choosing the previously saved filepath, after the live sync stops - for example because of switching to a 2D topview). I chose a simple demonstration with 3 spheres. In the example the black metal and the frosted glass material get switched up by D5 render. When opening the previously saved file path, the materials are placed correctly again.

Also i would like to address another issue with the live sync, that i forgot to mention in the original post. Regardless of VW Version & D5 render version, we always had the issue, that the setting for tesselation quality can’t be saved. If it’s set to “very high” (or anything else than “project default”) and confirmed by clicking “ok”, it’s always set back to “project default”, when checking if the setting has been applied. I also showed this in the video. (Apparently it’s a known issue, but it would be very important for this to be fixed in an update, since rendering with polygonized curves is not acceptable and the workaround of converting everything curved to meshes takes a lot of time and makes geometry changes a lot more complicated and time-consuming)

Hi all
Me getting too an instant crash every time with every file when stopping the connection with D5 render
Live Sync for Vectorworks Version 1.2.0.0012
Vectorworks Design 2026 Ita Update 7 (Nothing changed in previous version)
D5 Render 3.11.0755 (Nothing changed in previous version)
Sometimes I lose the whole imported scene and have to revert to saved
