Rhino . Geometry smooth normals error

Hi again,
I’m doing some geometry and material tests and stumbled in some issues concerning the normal smoothness of different types of geometry.

Here are a few examples, Left is Enscape, Right is D5:

  1. Nurbs object w/ simple gray material. No UV mapping added.

  2. Nurbs primitive torus w/ simple gray material. No UV mapping added.

  3. Nurbs primitive torus w/ simple gray material. Box Mapping 100x100x100 cm.

  4. Asset (mesh) Imported as Inserted Block. Box Mapping 100x100x100 cm.

  5. Asset (mesh) Imported as Inserted Block. Box Mapping 100x100x100 cm.

Fix after opening the asset file and reaplying the normals. Box Mapping 100x100x100 cm.

  1. SubD seems to work fine

It seems to me that the UV mapping is afecting the normal smoothness of geometries.

By the way, D5 light and texture resolution is way superior than Enscape.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @alexandrecollaco

Can you try to import these models directly to D5 Render and see if the geometry smooth Normals are fixed? If so, then this will be one of the issues that will be addressed in subsequent release.

  • You can also send us your file here via Direct Message, so I can test it on my end.

The exported version looks perfect.

Thanks

Thanks for your update. We are currently improving the live-sync version.

Hi , I just tried importing the models directly into D5 and the smooth normals look correct on my end. Seems like the issue might be during the sync process. I’ll DM you the file so you can take a look too.

Hi @egwene794

Were you able to send it? Thanks.
