Revit Livesync Team Projects

Hello everyone,

My team is encountering some workflow issues with Revit Worksharing and D5 Live Sync on a residential tower project. We are a team of three and are hoping to get advice from anyone who has successfully set up a multi-user project like this.

Our Current Setup

  • We have a central Revit file.
  • Each of the three team members is working on their own local Revit file.

Problems We’ve Encountered

  1. Livesync connection limit: Only one of our local Revit files can establish a live-sync connection to the central D5 Workset at a time. The other team members are blocked from connecting, even when they’re on different worksets.
  2. Model placement errors: When a different team member syncs their model, the entire building shifts to a wrong position in D5, as if the origin points aren’t aligned correctly.
  3. Inefficient workaround: Our current solution is to work in silos. Each team member creates their own local D5 file, and we then attempt to merge the three files.
  4. Merging issues: The merging process has problems as well. If a team member creates a copy of an existing 3D view in Revit that is already linked to a D5 file, that copied 3D view is not correctly brought over when merging the D5 files.

Has anyone dealt with a similar Revit/D5 team workflow? We would greatly appreciate any advice or best practices you could share on how to get this working smoothly. If it helps, I can provide more details about our team’s specific settings or include screenshots of the errors we are seeing.

Hi @boramoh

May I know the following information?

  • Which D5 Render Version - Team Identity are you using?
    2.11 Build Version

  • What is your Sync Plug-in version?

  • Regarding “the other team members are blocked from connecting” are there any error prompts that appeared upon activation of the plug-in?

I was able to confirm with our team that not being able to activate the sync feature when multiple users are using the file for multi-editor is a limitation of our plug-in. The DCC model update can only be operated within the workset of the model; otherwise, a pop-up prompt will appear
