I have been using D5 for a while; I really like D5 and I’m not interested in other rendering engines, but I also need to be able to create phase animations, and with D5 I can’t. I’ve tried everything and searched all over the internet, and you can only animate the equipment that comes with D5, but we can’t animate the walls, ceilings, doors, and windows of a model…
I think that’s the only thing D5 is really missing. I saw online that Lumion and Twinmotion allow this kind of rendering, and it would be a great addition to D5. I don’t know how things work at D5, but I can think of a way to access the subgroups of a model to specifically animate what we need, so we don’t have to import objects one by one into our project.
I also think it would be helpful to add a couple of actions for objects. Currently, we can scale, rotate, and deform objects, which are great actions. I think adding actions like “screw” could help animate floors or walls, and “twist” could be useful for some furniture. For ceilings and floors, we would need an action for “material rain,” where tiles fall one by one onto the floor. These aren’t my ideas; I just saw that Blender allows these things, and the phase animations achieved with Blender are on another level.
I just wanted to share that. I don’t know if they’ll read my message, but if they do and find it helpful, I wouldn’t mind receiving a pro membership, haha!
Keymap feature. Scale things in and out.
Like you said the walls etc. U will need to make multiple skethcup/rhino/object files bring them in seperately and use the scale feature and make the animations you like. AFAIK lumion and Twinmotion also doesnt allow the ability apart from scaling. Yes Lumion does allow some more aspects in terms of animations, but at a base they work in the same concept as i mentioned earlier. Bringing in the models from your modelling software seperately of what you would like to animate. That is furniture/wall/carpet/lights etc etc all seperate files and merging them together with sync co-ordinates option. Also linking below the lumion options for animations that they have.
You can do the same here in D5 as well but without those fancy movements as lumion provides with scaling/X&Y movement. So things are flying from the left right and above. Using the keyframes you CAN animate even with D5.
I have used it explaining a landscape space with and without tree cover. I animated the scale of the trees over time so it feels like the trees are growing to their full potential overtime. Giving the space the effect of with or without the tree cover. It was well received by the client as well as people here at work too
Anyways Just my 2 cents. All u need is the right kind of workflow and it can be possible to animate things in D5 as well.
BONUS: Would definitely love to have an overall opacity slider for the models that would solve the fading in & out part for the animation. This opacity slider (not to confuse it with transparency) is an overall see thru opacity slider that would help us maintain also like a conceptual look for buildings apart for our main design. So the surrounding site context buildings may have like a 35% opacity. So they act as if they are there but not there as well. Giving more focus on the main design as hand. Would be super helpful.
