Parent - Child Material Manager and General Layer and Sub-Layer Organization

Is it possible to create a Parent-Child material manager within D5? My thought would be that D5 could apply parent materials based on Rhino materials applied in Rhino and/or Child materials based on unique Rhino layer paths. Right now it seems that D5 is only applying material based on whatever material has been applied in Rhino. I’d imagine this could work for tags in Sketchup as well. Enabling the ability to apply materials to geometry on a unique layer path would enable us to quickly apply material more freely and specifically rather than only globally.
(Geometry with Rhino material applied → Global)
(Geometry on a sub layer with unique layer path → Specific set of Geometry)

It would be nice to be able to create a material family. For example having a Parent material and then child materials of that parent that are just variations in color, scale, settings, etc.
Ideally, these families would be saved to “local” and each project could have its own folder with all the materials hosted inside.

I wish there was an ability to separate geometry with the same material. I had a roof layer that had corrugated metal applied to it and some of the elements would not be able to display the correct orientation I was wanting because it would effect the layer globally. So if I have a pitched corrugated roof that is rotated 90 degrees from another then I need to make a whole separate material that it just named “name rotated”…

I’m really happy to see they are adding groups to the scene organization but I would like to see sublayers as well! Please add more Parent-Child structure to D5 Layers, Materials, and Scene Parameters (master parameter list like Lumion)
