LINK & SYNC button/menu

as discussed… this is the part that is needed by not just me but the whole community…this function is overlooked at… and u only see it during the syncing process and after that initial step in linking files to D5 this will be hard to SUMMON back on screen unless u do another new linkage…

the reason why i brought this up is for the USER to modify the files that is hooked up to d5…ie; deleting…updating…renaming…path…etc…

since is really hard to summon this UI …since we dont have a physical button or menu for it…

cheers.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion :yellow_heart:. I’d like to know more about the usage scenario for this request. Are you hoping to create a D5 scene using the sync plugin and then subsequently update the body model directly in D5 without using the sync plugin?

hi Lia,

this is what is lacking in our D5 the ability to control the linked files… for now the only way to see this GUI is when u execute the link from your 3d application to D5 then it will show up… whats missing is to go back to this UI for later adjustments or re-linking or re-path etc… & delete… to do these task for a average user will be confusing and hard… It is doable coz i did it…but u need to gather ur brain to figure out how u can re-link the existing file…with another new name to replace the existing one… then next step is to delete the old link… which is another problematic way to do… why dont we JUST USE this UI to do these… ie: relink, renaming, re-path, & delete … rather than u need to do so many things just to do these tasks. a dedicated menu button somewhere would be nice. somewhere OBVIOUS this is very important…for all users specially newbies or average users…

hope u agree… if not u may test it yourself… here is a sample.

STEP-1
create a 2-files say sketchup files… now 1 file give it a name say… BOX-a and the other file DOnut-a… now save separately…

STEP-2
open launch ur d5.

STEP-3
once d5 is on screen go back to sketchup (or whatever platform u chose) then link BOX-a

wait till u see the 3d object in d5…

now go to 2nd file open un donut-a sketchup file and link this file…

AS YOU CAN SEE each initial link the GUI will APPEAR… this is the first and last time for u to see this UI never again.u can summon call this out again… UNLESS u have a new fresh file to link…

NOW here is the problem…

while working say… ur colleage made an update for the BOX-a …and this new file is named BOX-B since this is the latest…

now if i open my d5 and load my d5-main file (drs) THAT INCLUDES BOX-A.SKP & DONUT-A,SKP… and i need to update and replace box-a.skp to box-b.skp. how will u do it ?? :woman_shrugging:if your an average user/newbie… u will be in trouble… because the ability to do this is scarce and confusing… RATHER THAN summoning the GUI (link/sync) and doing it inside this interface instead of doing so many steps…just to achieve a single right-click etc…

BUT SADLY thats not the case this GUI will be a saver if programmed properly.

Im not a programmer/coder but i think d5 engineers can do this easy…

and in return d5 will be more complete. and be above the other competitors. :innocent:

just my 2-cents… d5 should listen carefully to the users…and balance what is important…
