Issues with Procedural Ivy

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to express my excitement about the new Ivy tool – it’s truly fantastic!

However, being aware that it’s still in beta, I wanted to highlight a couple of issues I’ve encountered and see if anyone has any solutions or tips.

  1. One issue I’ve noticed is that when I try to generate Ivy on a Meshed Modelated surface, the tool struggles to follow the mesh direction, resulting in a smaller expansion area for the Ivy. To work around this, I’ve found a rustic solution: I create a flat surface along the mesh boundaries and assign it an invisible material.

  2. The biggest challenge I’ve faced with the tool is that after generating and randomizing the Ivy to achieve the desired look, the appearance of the Ivy changes completely when I save the file and reopen it later. This means I have to re-edit everything again. Is there a way to lock the appearance of the Ivy that I’m not aware of? Or is this simply a limitation of the beta version of the tool?

I would greatly appreciate any insights or advice on these issues.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi augustohon, this is a smart way to exploit this function, I did it with hedge walls, creating, as you mentioned, a transparent part. But in this case of the hedges I made the wall transparent in D5, that is, when I imported the wall with a texture given in the graphics program, all I did was give the type of foliage to the wall by extending over the entire wall, it is the texture of the imported wall that I made it transparent. You do the same thing with the ivy, but with the part that becomes transparent, giving a limit that does not hide some architectural structures, such as a door or a window.
For the maintenance of the ivy after you have closed and reopened the file, on this it seems strange to me that it disappears, I’m trying it at the moment,

I close and reopen,

In fact it disappears, but the ivy object still exists, you just have to regenerate it, but you have to lock the layer, you won’t have all the ivy but a part

I have regenerated, but it is different than before,

so it’s a problem, you have to finish the work and finally arrange the ivy, and then do the renderings. But it will only be in that moment. Maybe the Taim D5 knows if it is a defect of the Ivy Plugin or there is another solution

Thanks for your prompt response, it’s always nice to be informed about the various functions of the D5. For my part, I used it now to understand why “augustohon” raised the issue. Thanks again my friend

Thanks a lot! I wished there would be a solution but I guess we´ll wait for the tool to be fully developed. It still is a very great tool though unpredictable.
