Improving Scene Management & Workflow

Hello D5 Team,

First of all, thank you for creating such an amazing rendering engine. D5 Render has become one of the best real-time visualization tools available, with excellent rendering quality, performance, and ease of use.

I would like to suggest a few workflow improvements that I believe would make D5 even more powerful and encourage more professionals to switch from other rendering software.

  1. Dedicated Layers Panel

A dedicated Layers panel, similar to Twinmotion, would make managing large projects much easier.

Features that would be extremely useful include:

  • Create custom layers and folders
  • Drag and drop objects between layers
  • Hide/show entire layers
  • Lock layers to prevent accidental selection
  • Nested folders/layer hierarchy
  • Search and filter layers
  • Select all objects on a layer
  • Optional per-scene layer visibility
  1. Better Material Assignment Controls

When applying materials, it would be great to have options such as:

  • Apply to all objects using the same material.
  • Apply only to the selected object , without affecting every object that shares that material.

This would make it much easier to customize imported models without having to go back to the modeling software.

  1. More Independence from the Modeling Software

At the moment, D5 Render relies heavily on the organization, materials, and hierarchy created in the modeling software. As a result, many simple scene management tasks require going back to SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, Archicad, or another modeling application before returning to D5.

Giving users more control directly inside D5 would make it feel like a more complete visualization platform rather than a renderer that depends heavily on the source model. Many workflow adjustments such as organizing scenes, managing visibility, or assigning materials could then be done entirely within D5.

These improvements would reduce the need to constantly switch between applications, making the workflow much faster and more enjoyable.

I also believe these features would make it much easier for users coming from Twinmotion, Lumion, Enscape, and similar software. Many professionals are already familiar with these workflows, so providing comparable scene management and material controls would lower the learning curve and make D5 an even more attractive choice.

D5 Render already delivers incredible visual quality. Adding these workflow enhancements would make it not only one of the best rendering engines, but also one of the best tools for efficiently managing complex visualization projects.

Thank you for your hard work, and I hope you’ll consider these suggestions for future updates.
