Ideas to make D5 even better :)

Fantastic software! Here are some thoughts on making D5 even better. Any implementation of these ideas would be really appreciated!

  1. Visibility of Brush Layers: Keep brush layers visible at all times, eliminating the need to select an imported model just to view them.

  2. Editing Brushed Objects: Introduce the ability to edit objects after they’ve been placed with a brush. To simplify, maybe adding a right-click option on the brush layer for “convert to objects”, turning them into individual objects for easier editing. Or, make the brush function like a random placement tool, and all the objects are simply inside a group which can be manipulated after the brushing is finished, because sometimes the brush will place an object just slightly off, and right now it can be time-consuming to correct.

  3. Unified Object and Layers Panel: Could the object and layers panel be combined into one panel? Similar to something like Photoshop’s layers panel. This streamlines the interface by combining similar functions. You could then have brushes as a panel and layers as a panel instead of layers and objects (which are almost the same thing).

  4. When brushing plants or objects, it would be great if you could just hold shift and it would constrain the brush in a straight line and/or angle, again similar to Adobe software.

  5. Asset Resizing: When using C during the placement of an asset, pressing C multiple times makes the object bigger and bigger. Maybe add an Alt + C shortcut to decrease asset size, offering a way to easily adjust asset dimensions in both directions.

  6. Brush Control: Allow users to define the percentage of each asset type in a brush stroke for more precise composition control. For example with plants you could say you want the brush to have 20% of X species, 20% of Y species, and 60% of Z species.

  7. New Brushes with Same Assets: Introduce an easy click option to create new brushes with the same assets as a previous brush so that the new objects don’t have to be on the same brush layer. Having editable brush layers would also be a substitute.

  8. Display Brush Sizes and Values: Show numerical values and sizes on the brush tool for easier replication and adjustment.

Thank you!
