GS Tennis Court - Victor B. Ortiz | Architecture

Hi Vbo2
The straw basket structure is beautiful, like the kasa samurai hats. Apt setting for a tennis sports club. But I have a doubt, how does the structure keep itself on the ground? Because from the very realistic images, it is not clear, with that wall that starts on one side and ends in an arch on the other side. In short, like an arched curb, which supports the structure. Like it was being lifted by the wind, I have this feeling, which I like. Then the final part, where the light enters, there is no curb ring that fits the structure. Maybe it’s me who doesn’t see it. Or is it the structural mesh that supports itself?
Still beautiful and elegant
Hi Riccardo, thanks for the kind words.
The strucure has two compression rings, on on top and on at the base. The one on the base is connected to several steel columns, with “x” braces. And these go to the foundations.
The project engineers were Structure Craft and Timbau Estruturas. Both are major consulting firms with very innovative ideas, and helped us refine this design to its most efficient!
Thank you, for this structural technical part, which is always pleasant to fully understand how a cover of this kind works, even if some masters both of the past and those present have already provided us with several examples on the theory of sails.
You did a good job.
Stunning and beautiful!
Roof construction gives me vibe of yurt house roof combined with wall system, so gorgeous!
