Is there any way we could get some improvement to the current gizmo? It doesn’t necessarily need to emulate the 3ds max version but currently the gizmo is very clunky to use. I have a Wishlist below, thanks!
in order of most to least important
1: 3 separate operations. move/rotate/scale. so just separate the rotate from the move.
2: The gizmo should stick to either the world or object coordinates. currently it flip flips around based on how your orbiting making it really annoying to work with. The coordinates are still correct. just seems strange to have the xyz shift around.
3: Don’t have the gizmo warp between perspective and two-point perspective.
D5 gizmo is the worst I have ever used. I agree with everything you said. It is very hard to rotate/move the object when the gizmo is rotating all the time. Also, it is very hard to move two axis at the same time, as it is only a small circle, always hidden behind the Z move axis. Really take hints from the 3ds max gizmo. Doesnt need to be different/better than that.
The most difficult thing for me is that the plan dots (cyan, magenta and yellow ones) get into the way of the cursor. usually I just want to move on an horizontal plan (thus the yellow dot) but the cyan and magenta dots get in the way and I always accidentally touch the wrong dot, and thus the ibject moves in a vertical plan.
I think that basically the fact that the gizmo rotates is a good idea, but it always face the wrong orientation, making selecting the yellow (horizontal plane) difficult.
This is the most annoying thing for me too as a 3ds max user. I used to remember the position of the object in the world.
Every gizmo axis switch adds a stress to my orientation in space…
