D5 Lite for Revit fires an ExternalEvent ~15×/second even when unused

Issue

The D5 Lite add-in (D5RenderSyncTools, AddInId c974bdd2-90ff-4e48-a52c-72c355245be1) raises LiteRevitApiTickEventHandler continuously, from about one minute after Revit starts until it closes, even when D5 Lite is never opened. Updating from 1.0.0.0054 to 1.1.0.0001 did not fix it.

Environment: Revit 2024.3, Windows 10 Pro 22H2.

Evidence (Revit journals, attached)

Journal D5 Lite Executions Rate
journal.0385 1.0.0.0054 11,110 in 20 min ~10/s
journal.0387 1.1.0.0001 9,934 in 11 min ~15/s

These entries make up 86% of journal.0387 (4.70 of 5.49 MB).

Impact

  • Journals bloat, which makes them hard to use when diagnosing other problems.
  • Constant idle-loop work for every user who has D5 Lite installed.
  • Risk to other add-ins: if one pumps the message loop during its own transaction, this handler can run inside that transaction.

Suggested fix

  • Start the tick only while the Scene View or LiveSync is active, not at startup.
  • Raise the ExternalEvent when a message actually arrives from D5, not on a timer. Use DocumentChanged for model changes.
  • In the handler, return immediately if Document.IsModifiable is true, since that means another add-in’s transaction is open.
  • Set the manifest VendorId to D5’s own; it currently says ADSK, so journals attribute this to Autodesk.
