Camera-visible background image independent from scene lighting

Hello D5 team,

I would like to suggest a feature that would greatly improve architectural visualization workflows, especially for interiors and exteriors with views.

It would be very useful to have the option to assign a background image (backplate) that is visible to the camera but completely independent from the scene lighting.

At the moment, when using a plane with a background image, it is affected by the sun, Geo Sky, HDRI and camera exposure. This often causes the background to be overexposed, washed out, or not visible at all, particularly in daylight scenes.

The proposed background/backplate feature could work as follows:

  • Visible only to the camera
  • Does not receive or emit lighting
  • Does not affect global illumination
  • Independent from Sun, Geo Sky and HDRI
  • Allows independent control of position, scale and brightness

This would allow users to integrate real background photos (sea, city, landscape, etc.) directly in D5 without relying on post-production in Photoshop, while keeping full freedom to light the scene using Geo Sky or HDRI.

I believe this feature would be extremely valuable for architectural visualization and commercial presentations.

Thank you for your great work and continuous improvements.

Best regards,

David
