Archicad D5 Exporter - Model rotated 90° clockwise upon import

Hi guys, I would like to share the issue I met when I used D5.

The Issue:

Whenever I export a model from Archicad (tested on AC27 and AC29) to D5 Render, either via Direct Link or by exporting a .d5a file, the entire model is automatically rotated 90 degrees clockwise around the origin (0, 0, 0).

Troubleshooting Conducted:

To isolate the cause, I have tested several workflows, and the rotation only occurs with the Archicad Exporter:

Archicad → .skp → D5 Render: Orientation is Correct.
Archicad → 3ds Max → D5 Exporter → D5 Render: Orientation is Correct.
Archicad → D5 Exporter (Direct Link/.d5a) → D5 Render: Orientation is Incorrect (90° rotation).

It seems there might be a coordinate mapping error in the Archicad plugin. Or if there is a setting I might have missed?

Hi @guangrui.lab5

Hi, thank you for the detailed explanation — that was very helpful. To help us investigate further, could you please help confirm the following:

  1. Does the rotation always occur around the global origin (0,0,0), or only in certain files?
  2. Are you using any custom project origin or rotated work environment settings in Archicad?
  3. Have you tried placing the model at the global origin in Archicad before exporting to see if the behavior changes?
  4. Does the issue occur with both the Direct Link and the .d5a export consistently?

Additionally, could you please share a screenshot showing the model orientation in Archicad and the resulting orientation in D5 Render? This will help us better understand the rotation behavior.

Thank you for your cooperation — we’ll look into this as soon as we have the details.

Hi ela,

Thanks for reply

To answer the question

  1. Yes, always from (0,0,0), for all files I tried, start from new file or current working file.
  2. No I didn’t. Acutally D5 exporter didn’t recognize the Project North and location of survey point (I think only keep model in D5 the same position as in model will be good enough)
  3. not sure the global origin you mean here, but I start modeling form the (0,0,0) of ArchiCAD
  4. Yes, for both of them, Direct Link and .d5a export.

Additionally, D5 + Revit also have this issue same 90 degrees but rotate in the other direction. Please check link here

I understand it may come with the modeling software base of x,y,z. But would be nice if you could develope better experience, it will be a big help in improving multi-disciplinary workflow.

Screenshot of ArchiCAD - D5 is attached.

Cheers, keep up the good work!

Got it @guangrui.lab5. Thanks for the details.
